Following her divorce from Christian Borle in 2009, the Younger actress and Sweeney Todd star met the Hollywood screenwriter on a blind date, which eventually led to them tying the knot in October 2014.

They share one child together, a daughter named Emily who they welcomed in 2017 via adoption after years of fertility struggles.

“There was something about being with Ted that made me want kids,” the actress told PEOPLE in 2018. “He belonged in my family," she said, adding that she "didn’t really understand the concept of motherhood until he came around."

Griffin and Foster are parents of one child, a daughter named Emily Dale, whom they adopted in April 2017.

“Our lives are forever changed, and our hearts are exploding,” Foster — who shared the happy news to the audience at her Lincoln Center’s American Songbook performance at Alice Tully Hall — said at the time.

Foster and Griffin welcomed Emily after years of fertility struggles but decided not to tell many people about their adoption process before officially welcoming their child. In 2019, the actress told PEOPLE that she realized "Emily was so clearly meant to be our daughter."

Since then, Foster has soaked up every joyful moment with her daughter. “I’m fascinated by Emily; she changes every day,” the actress told PEOPLE in 2018. “It doesn’t matter where she came from, my belly or someone else’s belly. When she was born, I was like, ‘What took me so long?’ And I realized I was waiting for her to come into my life.”
