Suspect Allegedly Stabbed Mother 56 Times and Threw Poodle Out Window of High-Rise

Andre Eugene, 36, is charged with murder in the second-degree and aggravated cruelty to animals

A 36-year-old is accused of stabbing the suspect's mother to death and also stabbing the victim's beloved poodle before throwing the dog off the 11th floor of a Brooklyn building.

Andre Eugene is charged with murder in the second-degree in connection with the death of the suspect’s mother, Donna Hyman.

Eugene is also charged with aggravated cruelty to animals in the death of poodle Gigi.

Eugene has entered a not guilty plea to all of the charges.

Police were called to the 1500 block of Hornell Loop in Brooklyn around 7 p.m. on Jan. 19. and found Hyman “lying lifeless on the floor of the 11 floor apartment” that she shared with Eugene, per a criminal complaint obtained by PEOPLE.

According to the complaint, Hyman, 58, had been stabbed 56 times, including stab wounds to the heart.

Officers also “observed a lifeless and bloodied dog lying in front of the building and that the dog appeared to have multiple stab wounds to its body.”

A forensic veterinarian told police that the dog sustained stab wounds to its back, right side, end and back legs, per the complaint.

According to the complaint, officers found Eugene, who reportedly worked as a paraprofessional at P.S. 17 in Brooklyn, “naked and covered in blood” in front of the building after the alleged attack. The suspect allegedly stated that Hyman had died by suicide and that the dog fell from the balcony.

Eugene was taken to the hospital for a dog bite to the thigh, according to ABC7. Police said the suspect also had several self-inflicted stab wounds, per ABC7.

Eugene was charged on Jan. 24. A court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 27. An attorney for Eugene could not be reached for comment.
