Susan Sarandon Is Not Sigourney Weaver — Though Now and Then She’ll Pretend to Be

Susan Sarandon is a five-time Oscar nominee and one-time winner. The nearly 70-year-old actress loves politics (don’t quit, Bernie!), pingpong, younger men, letting loose at Burning Man, a good cleavage selfie, and tweeting … as her dog. Susan Sarandon is not Sigourney Weaver.

At Tuesday’s Glamour U.K.’s Women of the Year Awards in London, the Thelma & Louise star, who accepted the Inspiration Award, appeared onstage shortly after the Avatar actress, 66, who received the night’s Icon Award. “I want to just clarify a few things while I’m up here,” Sarandon told the crowd. “Sigourney has left, but seriously, we are not the same person.”

She continued: “She has generously signed my name a number of times and I have taken credit for Alien. I don’t know why this happens but … if you saw us at the table, you can see this is not true. We are two separate people.”

While we don’t think of them as celebrity look-alikes the same way we do Katy Perry and Zooey Deschanel, Bryce Dallas Howard and Jessica Chastain, or Nina Dobrev and Victoria Justice, we can see it. Behind some shades, off the red carpet, on the streets of NYC, where they both live, we can see fans — who don’t realize Weaver is a half foot taller than Sarandon — mixing up the two.

We guess.

This isn’t the first time Sarandon has talked about her celebrity twin. In a funny essay she wrote for the Every Three Weekly in 2014, she said she was “living a double life as the fictitious Sigourney Weaver. Much as Beyoncé has Sasha Fierce and Lady Gaga has Jo Calderone, I chose to live out my wildest dreams through an outspoken, kick-ass alter ego.”

“Quite honestly, I’m surprised no one ever figured this out before,” wrote Sarandon. “How could you not notice how Sigourney and I have never starred in the same movie or attended the same award show at the same time. Come on, Sigourney isn’t even a real name. That was just how I mispronounced ‘Sidney’ after a couple too many chardonnays.”

The rest of Sarandon’s speech at the Glamour event was pretty NSFW — though certainly entertaining. Have a look-see here:

And then watch Weaver’s here:

Again, Susan Sarandon is definitely not Sigourney Weaver.
