Time and time again, Susan Lucci reminds everyone that life doesn’t stop when you hit a certain age, and that just because you hit a certain age, doesn’t mean you have to stop doing the things you love. At 77 years old, she’s continuing her iconic legacy, and even shut down those pesky retirement rumors once and for all!

During a rare interview with Entertainment Tonight, the All My Children alum discussed how she’s not only never considering retirement, but she actually has a great disdain for that term. “That word is a dirty word to me,” she joked.

(This isn’t the first time she’s repeated this sentiment, because back in 2018, she told Closer Weekly: “That is not a word in my vocabulary or my radar! I love what I do! I feel very lucky and grateful to get to do what I do!”)

Honestly? We get it. Most people can’t wait to retire, but those who never want to retire? They shouldn’t feel pressure to do so. If you’re taking care of yourself, and doing what you love, we totally understand why retirement wouldn’t be on the mind.

And Lucci isn’t the only A-lister to call out how the term “retirement” needs to be retired. In fact, Serena Williams said that instead of retiring from tennis, it was an “evolution,” saying, per Vogue: “I have never liked the word retirement. It doesn’t feel like a modern word to me. I’ve been thinking of this as a transition, but I want to be sensitive about how I use that word, which means something very specific and important to a community of people. Maybe the best word to describe what I’m up to is evolution. I’m here to tell you that I’m evolving away from tennis…”

As of Dec 2023, Lucci is rumored to revive her role of Erica Cne in the TV project entitled Pine Valley, per IMDb.
