“Survivor 46” players predict a season of explosions and arguments

“Survivor 46” players predict a season of explosions and arguments

"People are going to get spicy this season," says one contestant.

There is no doubt that the new era of Survivor that started in season 41 ushered in a kinder, gentler version of the show. That’s not to say there is no longer drama nor disagreements. After all, the pants of players are constantly on fire from all the lying they are doing. But people also don’t take being backstabbed and blindsided nearly as personal as they did back in the early days of the show. (Survivor: Vanuatu set a land speed record for the number of times women called each other a “bitch.”)

But perhaps the era of good feelings is about to come to an end on Survivor 46 (which premieres Feb. 28 on CBS). And this intel comes from the players themselves.

We asked the entire cast just days before filming began out in Fiji to make a bold prediction for something that would happen during their season, and several of them responded that they felt some serious fireworks were about to explode once they hit the beach.

“I feel like the last couple seasons have been really calm, real kumbaya,” Tiffany Nicole Ervin told EW before the game. “I feel like there's going to be some tussling this season. I feel like there's going to be some arguments. There's going to be some people butting heads. I feel like people are going to get spicy this season. I hope I'm not one of the people, but I definitely would love to sit back and drink a little coconut water and watch other people go at it.”

But Tiffany is far from alone in this assessment, because Tevin Davis basically made the exact same prediction. “Everyone is coming in with a whole lot of ability to think and to process information,” says Tevin. “And so I think that there's going to be quite a few explosions. I think there's going to be quite a few arguments, because I think everyone here believes that they are the one that's going to outwit everyone. But I think they're going to have to come up against a hard reality that that may not be true, and I think that that's going to light some fire. So I think this season might be a little spicy.”

There’s that word again: spicy. We can only hope they are both right as some spice would be oh-so-nice. And because things always come in threes, Randen Montalvo also predicted that folks were going to go at it on Survivor 46. “I think drama is going to be big this season,” he predicted. “I think there is going to be a lot of feathers ruffled.”

While normally you might want to just brush these predictions off as wild guesswork, remember: These people had spent a few days around each other already at this point in the pre-game, so the fact that they think cast mates are going to be at each other’s throats could be quite telling indeed. And perhaps that is why Ben Katzman told us that “I predict at least one epic mental breakdown.” Then again, in the case of Ben, “Maybe it will be my own in the heat.”
