‘Survivor 46’ episode 5 recap: Who was voted out in ‘Tiki Man’? [LIVE BLOG]

Heading into the fifth episode of “Survivor 46,” only the Siga tribe was still sitting pretty at six members strong, as the Yanu tribe voted out three players (David Jelinsky, Jessica “Jess” Chong and Bhanu Gopal) and the Nami tribe medically evacuated one castaway (Randen Montalvo). So whose torch did Jeff Probst snuff during this week’s 90-minute episode?

8:00 p.m. — “Previously on ‘Survivor’!” In the fourth episode, Yanu and Nami won the reward challenge and claimed tools and fresh fish, respectively. Nami and Sagi then won the immunity challenge, sending Yanu back to tribal council for the third time. At tribal, the Yanu tribe was in complete agreement that Bhanu should go home, so Jeff bypassed the normal voting procedure and Bhanu was eliminated from the competition. Only 14 players remain — who will be voted out tonight?

8:02 p.m. — The three remaining Yanu players return to camp and reflect on Bhanu’s journey. Tiffany is “happy” with the three people left at the camp, calling them her “closest allies.” They are all desperate to win an immunity challenge. Q remarks on how they still don’t “have flint,” which Kenzie suspects is a new “Survivor” record. Tiffany’s stomach is “starting to eat itself” — yikes! Kenzie breaks down in tears because she’s “so tired” and they just keep losing.

8:04 p.m. — Day 10 arrives at the Siga camp and Ben calls their shelter a “hell hole on the most beautiful place on earth.” He hopes that suffering will allow him to learn more about the “depths of [his] mind.” Charlie is looking out for Ben while he’s feeling sore, and the girls immediately pick up on the fact that they could be doing a “boy’s thing” with Tim. Maria notes how it’s good that the girls “got to” Charlie first. The women suspect Tim could have the idol, but it was Jem who secretly found the Beware Advantage. Maria gets the idea to have a “salsa lesson,” and they all laugh at Charlie’s dancing skills. Charlie calls Maria his “number one ally” and that they’re trying to secretly “walk the tightrope of the middle of this tribe.”

8:09 p.m. — At the Nami tribe, Hunter is “worried” about the idol not being found yet. He has searched low and high (literally) looking for it, and the camera sneekily reveals it’s hiding in a tree. Liz has been open about the fact that she’s “not gonna look” for the idol because she can barely find her shoes. The audience knows that Randen found the Beware Advantage and that he only told Venus, but it’s possible it was re-hidden after his medevac. Venus tells Hunter to his face that he’s a “meat shield” and so she wouldn’t want to vote him out. Hunter wishes she would just leave him alone so he could find the idol on his own. Soon after she leaves, he finds the Beware Advantage! It instructs him to dig below that exact spot, where he finds a box that requires a key. Hunter has to wait until his tribe loses immunity in order to gain more information.

8:15 p.m. — Kenzie thinks her Yanu tribe is “cursed” because rain is coming through their new tarp. Meanwhile, everything is getting on Q’s nerves, including the mere sight of bamboo. Yanu has “gone through hell,” Kenzie notes, because they’re the only tribe to visit tribal council after 10 days. Q is so emotional that he is considering quitting the game. “I might say f*** it,” he reveals. Kenzie sees that as “one step closer to the end” for her own game. Q then states in a confessional that he’s not actually considering quitting and that he just wants Kenzie to feel comfortable so she doesn’t use her shot in the dark. Tiffany is in a “tough position” because she doesn’t want to choose between voting out either of them.

8:19 p.m. — At Siga, Tim is having a private conversation with “Tiki Man,” aka the immunity idol. He is mildly worried because he “hasn’t pooped” yet. He calls his tribe members “nuts” because one of them planted the Beware Advantage in a new spot and made them all dig for days. Tim has “put the pieces together” that Jem is the one who moved the advantage, accusing her directly and saying she is “acting weird.” He then tells her directly that she’s the leader of the girl’s alliance. Jem denies it all, and then brags to the camera that she’s a “fantastic liar” and that she hasn’t “giggled at all.”

8:24 p.m. — Day 11 arrives and it’s “Come on in!” time. No one is surprised to see that Bhanu is the one who was voted out last time. Jeff explains the day’s immunity challenge: it’s a massive three-level obstacle course leading to a slingshot in which they have to knock down three targets with sandbags. In addition, the castaways are playing for reward in the form of pastries and fruit. He then confirms that Yanu has set a record in the “New Era” for the most days played without flint. The sit-outs are Soda and Liz for Nami, and Moriah, Charlie and Ben for Siga.

8:27 p.m. — Each tribe makes it through the obstacle course, but then Q gets stuck unwrapping his rope that connects to the sandbags. Tevin is the first to knock down a target, followed by Venus and Hunter, giving Nami the win. The other two tribes become tied with two targets down apiece, making it a showdown between Tim and Q. In an epic slow-motion shot, Q fires and hits his target! That gives Yanu their first immunity win, and they finally receive flint. Siga is forced to go to tribal council for the first time.

8:36 p.m. — After chatting with Yanu about what it means to win their first challenge, Jeff instructs Nami that they have to pick one person from each tribe to go on a journey. They pick Hunter, Tim and Q. Charlie says everyone at the “vibe tribe” has the “feeling of dread all over their body” going into their first tribal council.

8:41 p.m. — Q can’t wait to have a “bro moment” on the journey. Hunter and Tim congratulate him for finally winning an immunity challenge. The guys realize they are “physical threats” and talk about a Final 6 strategy in which they each bring along a plus-one: Q & Tiffany, Tim & Maria, and Hunter & Tevin. They have to discuss which one person will compete in a “Survivor Knowledge” task, where they will either win an advantage or lose their vote, and they pick Hunter. In order to win he must arrange 20 classic “Survivor” logos in chronological order within a certain amount of time, however he only gets eight out of 20 correct, which he says is “not a passing grade.” Thus, Hunter loses his vote.

8:48 p.m. — Kenzie and Tiffany are “elated” as they enjoy their pastries and fruit. They finally have their flint, so “the record now dies at Day 11,” smiles Kenzie. Q arrives and immediately starts eating.

8:54 p.m. — Before any scrambling happens at Siga, the tribe celebrates the 11 days they all spent together. Moriah reminds viewers that Maria has an extra vote, that the Beware Advantage has likely been found, and that Ben and Tim both went on journeys so they could each have something or could have each lost their votes. Jem races back to where she found the Beware Advantage and finds a clue that will lead her to the key. It’s a massive puzzle in which she has to measure distances using a machete and then solve a math problem. She discovers the key and opens the box, finding her immunity idol. Jem plans on keeping everything a secret — smart move!

8:58 p.m. — The girls devise a plan to put three votes on Ben and two votes on Tim, hoping Tim will play an idol if he has one. But when they fill in Charlie, his heart plummets because he’s gotten “very close” to Ben. Tim returns and tells the tribe the complete truth about what happened on the journey, however Jem thinks he’s lying. Jem corners Ben and tries to find out who he’s voting for, while holding a machete. Ben’s “gut” is telling him that Jem is playing him … and he’s completely right. Ben keeps it secret that he doesn’t have a vote, and he tells the guys and Maria to vote for Jem. Charlie and Maria are going “back and forth” about sticking with the girls or going with the guys.

9:14 p.m. — Siga arrives at tribal council for the first time and dips their torches in the fire. “The reckoning has come,” notes Ben. They all tell Jeff how they’re the “vibe tribe,” and the only thing they don’t do together is an “aqua dump.” Because of the uncertainty of advantages, Moriah is unsure how many votes will be cast tonight. Charlie tells Jeff about the digging they did over three days, all for nothing. Jem says she has no idea whose name to write down and asks Jeff is he’s an option, to which he responds, “You can’t write my name down, Jem — I’m here forever!” Charlie laughs, “Permanent immunity idol.”

9:21 p.m. — It’s time to vote. Jeff asks if anyone wants to use an advantage, but there are no takers. He reads the votes: Ben, Jem, Ben, Jem, Jem, Jem. That means the girl’s alliance is no more, and Jem goes home with an idol in her pocket. Jem gets her torch snuffed and she leaves without saying a word.
