“Latin Night” on “Dancing with the Stars” had a surprise ending. Jamie Lynn Spears was eliminated from the competition despite having decent judges’ scores. Did she and her pro partner Alan Bersten really deserve to be sent home after their “Latin Night” cha cha? See what the judges had to say and watch their routine below.

Carrie Ann Inaba: “Love seeing you having fun. I can tell you’re enjoying yourself. We lost a step in the middle just a little bit, but what was missing for me was a little bit more of an elongation of your torso. I feel like thinking of it as lifting as opposed to pressing down into it because you’re very strong. So try to allow a little air to flow.”

Derek Hough: “I beg to differ. I think softball moms are hot. That said, there was a little timing issue. It’s okay, we all miss steps every once in a while. It happens. But that for me was a big improvement from last week as far as the confidence and just your presence out there. Well done.”

Bruno Tonioli: “You made some mistakes, but on the good side, you came out of your shell. You gave a very good performance. You entertained and connected. Forget about the mistakes and remember the good things because you’re a performer and you can do it.”

In our weekly racetrack odds, we’d bet on “Real Housewives” cast member Mauricio Umansky to get the boot, while only two users thought Spears would be eliminated. Umansky had landed in the bottom two on “Premiere Night” despite not being at the bottom of the judges’ leaderboard, indicating that he lacked audience support. This week he had a disastrous salsa that left him with the worst scores, so it seemed like there would be no saving him.

Much to our surprise, he wasn’t even in the bottom two. Perhaps he’d earned sympathy from viewers at home, or maybe his close call on “Premiere Night” scared his fans into voting for him extra hard this week. The bottom two instead were Spears and football player Adrian Peterson, with Spears ultimately exiting the competition. What did her in wasn’t that she performed poorly. It may have been that she performed well enough to give her fans a false sense of security, but not well enough to inspire them to turn out for her. Sometimes on “DWTS” it’s better to fail spectacularly than to succeed marginally.
