Kate Middleton’s sister Pippa Middleton will be part of The Crown's final season.

As Netflix continues to unveil more about the upcoming sixth season of The Crown, actress Matilda Broadbridge announced that she was cast as the Princess of Wales’ younger sister.

“A very short but very sweet trip to crown land👑,” Broadbridge wrote on Instagram last week. The actress posted a photo of herself in casual clothes outside a trailer with a sign reading “Pippa,” followed by a shot of the show's name painted on a wall above a staircase.

“So excited to announce that i’ll be appearing as Pippa Middleton in @thecrownnetflix so grateful to have been a tiny part of this production and for this experience, keep your eyes peeled,” she continued.

According to Tatler, playing Pippa will be the “first major screen role” for the 19-year-old English actress, who won Young Actor of the Year at Royal High School Bath in 2019. However, Broadbridge’s cameo in The Crown is not expected to air until December, when the series introduces a young Kate Middleton, played by Meg Bellamy.

On Oct. 9, Netflix dropped a new trailer for the last chapter of the hit drama inspired by the lives of the British royal family and revealed that season 6 of the royal drama will debut in two installments — a first for the series — on Thursday, November 16, and Thursday, December 14. Part 1 will feature four episodes and follow the relationship between Princess Diana (Elizabeth Debicki) and Dodi Fayed (Khalid Abdalla) before the fatal car accident in Paris in 1997.

Four weeks later, the final six episodes will imagine a young Prince William (Ed McVey) settling back in at Eton following his mother’s death, as the monarchy navigates a turbulent time in the public eye. Meanwhile, an aging Queen Elizabeth (Imelda Staunton) mulls the future of the monarchy with the marriage of King Charles (Dominic West) to now-Queen Camilla (Olivia Williams) as well as the destiny ahead for William and Kate.

News of Broadbridge’s casting as Pippa suggests that part 2 of season 6 might depict a peek into Kate’s personal life, as she and her only sister are close. Pippa was memorably by Kate’s side on her 2011 wedding day to Prince William and helped her arrange the train of her gown — and Kate did the same when Pippa got married in 2017.

While Debicki, Abdalla, Staunton, West and Williams all reprise their roles from season 5 of The Crown, which hit queues in November 2022, the young actors playing Prince William and Kate are fresh faces like Broadbridge. Last September, Deadline reported that Bellamy was cast as Kate while William would be portrayed by Rufus Kampa and Ed McVey. Since it premiered in 2016, the cast of The Crown has changed every two seasons to reflect the characters aging through the decades — but even more frequently for the roles of William and Harry, whom producers imagined growing up on screen.

In season 5, the part of William was played by Timothee Sambor and Senan West, Dominic’s son, while the role of Harry was shared by Teddy Hawley and Will Powell. The upcoming season 6 will see a similar split, with the Prince of Wales portrayed by Rufus Kampa and McVey, and the Duke of Sussex played by Fflyn Edwards and Luther Ford.

Netflix released the first photos of McVey and Bellamy in character as William and Kate in April, sharing a shot where they strolled hand in hand — perhaps around the campus of the University of St. Andrew’s in Scotland, where the Prince and Princess of Wales met as students. It was followed by a solo photo of McVey on what looked like the couch of a royal residence, and Bellamy in a classroom.

News of Broadbridge’s casting as Pippa suggests that part 2 of season 6 might depict a peek into Kate’s personal life, as she and her only sister are famously close. Pippa was memorably by Kate’s side on her 2011 wedding day to Prince William and helped her arrange the train of her Alexander McQueen gown.

In another hint of what’s to come, the streamer dropped first-look images for part 1 of season 6 on Instagram on Monday. The eight photos showed some of the cast in character and scenes from the first installment of the final season, including Debicki as Princess Diana her arms around her sons, played by Kampa and Edwards.
