Superhero Movie News Roundup From Comic-Con

Comic Con has come and gone. There was a ton of news about our favorite costumed heroes. Time’s a wastin’, so let’s get right into it.

The Justice League footage might’ve been the biggest story out of San Diego. While it kept the same darker palette we’ve come to know from director Zack Snyder’s DC films, the tone was way lighter. There was banter. Banter! We also got some extended looks at Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as the Flash, and Ray Fisher as Cyborg.

Speaking of DC heroes, a trailer for Wonder Woman was released. It looks pretty awesome. There’s reason to be very optimistic about what director Patty Jenkins and star Gal Gadot will be offering audiences next summer.

The Suicide Squad cast attended, but there was no big news from that. It wasn’t all sunshine for DC. They endured some bad press over the fact that the long-anticipated movie adaptation of The Killing Joke will include a Batgirl/Batman sex scene. Yikes. Moving on.

Marvel was there too and revealed quite a bit of casting news. Brie Larson was officially announced as Captain Marvel. It will be Marvel Studios’ first film solely featuring a female hero. One day, Black Widow. One day. The Black Panther cast became official. Joining Chadwick Boseman will be Lupita Nyong'o as Nakia, Danai Gurira as Okoye, and Michael B. Jordan as the villainous Eric Killmonger. In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, we have confirmation on Sylvester Stallone’s involvement but no word yet on exactly what role he’ll play. We do know now that Kurt Russell will be on board as Star Lord’s father, Ego the Living Planet.

Additionally, we got some cool concept art for Spider-Man: Homecoming, a peek at Hulk’s gladiator outfit to be worn in Thor: Ragnarok, and a new trailer for Doctor Strange.
