‘Supergirl’: First Look At Jon Cryer As The New Lex Luthor

Jon Cryer, the Emmy-winning co-star of Two and a Half Men, returns to primetime television on March 17 when he joins the Supergirl cast in an iconic role: Lex Luthor, the bad, brilliant and bald mastermind who has been tangling with Kryptonians in the pages of DC Comics since 1940.

Today the CW released a first-look photo of a glowering Cryer in evil-genius mode and a short synopsis of the episode: “Lex Luthor reaches out from prison to enlist Lena (Katie McGrath) into one of his plans and will stop at nothing to get her on board, even if that means leveraging the life of one of her friends.”

You can see the photo above and larger version below. The episode is entitled “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” which might hint that a prison escape is in the cards as well.

The penitentiary imagery clearly is a nod to Cryer’s career heritage. The actor’s breakthrough came back in 1986 when he memorably portrayed the smitten teen “Duckie” Dale in Pretty in Pink. He followed that up with a trip to Metropolis when he appeared in the 1987 film Superman IV: The Quest for Peace. The 21-year-old Cryer portrayed Lenny Luthor, the dutiful nephew who helps his Uncle Lex (as played by Gene Hackman) escape his cellblock.
