As Summer Walker continues the five-year anniversary celebration of her debut mixtape, Last Day Of Summer, she is releasing a special Girls Need Love (Girls Mix) EP this Friday (Oct. 20).

The Atlanta-bred songbird has enlisted the talents of fellow R&B phenoms Victoria Monét, Tink and Tyla for the commemorative drop of remixes. Each are having their own shining moment, with Tyla’s “Water” going viral on TikTok, Monét in the midst of her sold-out JAGUAR II tour and Tink just wrapping the European leg of her Thanks 4 Everything tour.

When announcing the project on Instagram, Walker wrote, “‘Last Day Of Summer’ is officially platinum and to thank you guys after 5 years of loving this project, I’m releasing new Girls Need Love Remixes Friday…[Drake] blessed this song 5 years ago but GIRLS NEED LOVE TOO @victoriamonet @official__tink @tyla.”

Each singer will join the mother of three with their own spin on the hit ballad. However, Walker released the first track from the EP, an acoustic rendition, today (Oct. 16). The official music video, directed by Lacey Duke, is streaming exclusively on Apple Music with the songbird dressed in a Winnie The Pooh onesie, serenading viewers about what women want and need.

The first “Girls Need Love” remix featuring Drake peaked No. 2 on Billboard’s Hot R&B chart and entered the top 40 of the Hot 100.

Walker was also recently featured in the rollout for Spotify’s RNB X rebrand.

The Grammy-nominated singer spoke on the future of the genre and how streaming changed the trajectory of her career.

“The future of R&B is female. I love how many young girls are breaking through on their own terms and making R&B mainstream again,” Walker shared before adding, “Streaming has made it possible for people all over the world to hear my music. I’m from Atlanta and it wouldn’t have been possible for me to have fans in London, South Africa, Brazil and more without streaming.”
