Tung will take over as Eurydice on Feb. 9 for a limited run.

Hey, little songbird, give us a song…

EW can exclusively report that The Summer I Turned Pretty actress Lola Tung will be Hadestown's newest songbird when she joins the Broadway production as Eurydice on Feb. 9. Tung will enjoy a limited run in the show, performing through March 17.

"I saw the show with my dad back in February of 2020 and immediately became a fan," Tung tells EW. "Every character in the show is so special and unique. Eurydice is someone who tends to keep to herself but has so much love in her heart, so it's incredibly beautiful and moving to watch her journey. She is such a fun character, and someone who I was immediately drawn to."

Though Tung is best known to audiences for starring as Belly on The Summer I Turned Pretty, she's long had her eyes on Broadway. She studied at New York City's famed LaGuardia High School, a.k.a. the school from Fame.

"I don't know that Broadway became my goal because of the school that I went to, but it definitely made me love theater even more, which made it even clearer that this was something I wanted to pursue," she says. "I am very grateful that I got to take great classes that made me even more excited about theater and helped me work towards my goals. I feel very lucky that I got to do what I love at school everyday."

Tung will replace Solea Pfeiffer as Eurydice, starring opposite Jordan Fisher as Orpheus. While Phillip Boykin and Lilias White will continue their stints as Hades and Hermes, Tung will also be joined by another newcomer to the cast, Ani DiFranco, who will take over for Betty Who as Persephone.

This will mark Tung's Broadway debut. Season 2 of The Summer I Turned Pretty dropped on Prime Video last summer, and the series has been renewed for season 3.

"Eurydice and Belly both have a lot of love in their hearts and are very expressive and loving when they are with people who make them feel comfortable and safe being vulnerable and open," Tung says, reflecting on the similarities between her TV and stage characters. "They do what they believe is best for themselves and protect themselves because they've both been hurt in the past in different ways."

Hadestown, she adds, "is very different from The Summer I Turned Pretty, from Belly, and from TV. I feel so lucky to get the opportunity to do both. As an actor, the greatest gift is playing roles that are totally different and exploring different mediums. I can't wait for people to see the show, and I can't wait to step into this awesome role!"
