Kick back at McMorran this summer during its annual Summer on the Plaza concert series.

Summer on the Plaza returns the weekend of May 31. The free concerts will take place at 7 p.m. on Thursdays in the Beer Garden and at 7 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays on the Main Stage. Downtown Development Authority Director Natacha Hayden said downtown Port Huron is extremely excited for Summer on the Plaza.

"McMorran Plaza has been a great addition to our downtown, bringing live entertainment, fitness classes and a ready-to-use venue for outdoor events," she said. "We love how alive downtown becomes and all the foot traffic it generates."

Summer on the Plaza will kick off at 7 p.m. on May 31 with classic rock band, Los Gringos as the first act. Adults can relax in lawn chairs or enjoy a drink in the Beer Garden from Casey's on the Plaza. The splash pad will also be open for children. What the Fry and McMorran Food Service will be available as well.

Guests can also play yard games such as cornhole during the concerts. Variety hits band The Rhoedes will be playing at 7 p.m. on June 1.

Solo and duo acts will be playing on Thursdays while full bands will perform on Fridays and Saturdays.

"There's always excitement for Summer Plaza fun," said Jesse Sheldon, marketing director and plaza coordinator. "On any normal weekend, the plaza brings around 800 people to our downtown which can lead to exposure to our downtown businesses. Some special events, such as Battle of the Bands on June 15th, brings thousands of people. McMorran Plaza, now in its third summer, continues to serve as the heart of downtown Port Huron."

The concert series is free. McMorran is offering people who RSVP on its website a chance to win free tickets to any upcoming theatre show. The "Buy Tickets" button is the RSVP button.

Other things will be happening at McMorran Plaza throughout the summer in addition to the concert series. Starting June 1, there will be 24 weekly fitness classes through the plaza's partnership with the YMCA of the Blue Water Area. Classes include Zumba, bootcamp workouts and family workouts. Find these, and other fun activities coming to the plaza at www.mcmorran.com/plaza.

The full lineup of acts can be found in orange fold-out brochures which will soon be distributed to downtown businesses. Bands, YMCA classes and other upcoming special events can also be found on the McMorran Plaza website.
