‘Suits’ Sneak Peek: Mike vs. Frank Gallo, Round 2

In last week’s Suits Season 6 premiere, Mike Ross (Patrick J. Adams) met his new nemesis, fellow inmate Frank Gallo (Nurse Jackie’s Paul Schulze), who’s serving 13 years courtesy of Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht).

Our sneak peek from tonight’s episode shows Gallo’s next step after posing as Mike’s cellmate and encouraging Mike to text fiancée Rachel (Meghan Markle) with his phone. The fight that ensues isn’t the only time Gallo and Mike will tangle in the hour, as the promo below teases.

“We’re going to learn that [Gallo]’s not your typical Suits villain. He’s somebody who can do way more physical damage, and plans to do way more physical damage, than anyone we’ve really had on the show before,” Adams told Yahoo TV in our premiere postmortem. “It really ups the stakes, and it gives Mike and Harvey something to fight against and a good reason to do everything in their power to get Mike out of prison before it’s too late.”

Schulze tells Yahoo TV he had obviously heard of the USA drama before he was cast as Gallo, but he’d never actually seen it. “So I didn’t know how dark some characters had gone in the past. I knew from when I was auditioning and working with Aaron [Korsh, the show’s creator] and whoever, they certainly were willing to see me get as dark as I got,” he says. “I guess while they still enjoy being funny and having gorgeous actors, they didn’t mind tasting some other flavors.”

For the eagle-eyed, our sneak peek also offers a glimpse of Mike’s actual roommate, Kevin Miller, played by Erik Palladino, who’s seen rising from his chair. Adams also previewed that relationship in our premiere postmortem: “I think the guy that Frank Gallo is pretending to be in this first episode ends up being the guy that Kevin Miller actually is,” he said. “He’s not a guy without a past who hasn’t made some mistakes. … Ultimately he’s a guy that is good, and I think Mike recognizes that early on and knows that this is a guy like Mike, whose heart is in the right place. He’s just trying to do what he knows to be right in difficult circumstances. Their relationship and how Mike is forced to make some difficult decisions in regards to their relationship is really, I think, the central drama for Mike in these first 10 episodes.”

Suits airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. on USA.
