To the surprise of no one (and certainly no regular reader of TVLine), Suits was the most-streamed program of 2023.

Available on Netflix since June (as well as on Peacock), the “blue sky” drama racked up 57.7 billion minutes viewed across its 134-episode library, Nielsen reports in its 2023 wrap-up, easily topping the list of Top 10 overall programs.

Suits‘ one-year tally breaks a record held by The Office since 2020, when the NBC sitcom amassed 57.1 billion minutes viewed.

As far as original streaming programs, the series that landed in the No. 1 spot is one that never topped Nielsen’s weekly ranking in 2023, though it steadily hovered between No. 2 and No. 7 for at least 13 straight weeks upon the release of its third (and final?) season.

That most-streamed original program was… Apple TV+’s Ted Lasso, which generated 16.9 billion minutes viewed across 34 episodes.

Other fun facts via Nielsen’s 2023 ‘Streaming Unwrapped’ Report:

▶ We watched “21 million years” of streaming content in 2023. Which seems like a lot.

▶ Streaming volume in 2023 was up 21% vs. 2022.

▶ Acquired content dominated streaming viewership in 2023, claiming all spots on the Top 10 overall chart — but I don’t find that terribly interesting, seeing as acquired series tend to have way, way more episodes available for ongoing binges.

▶ Moana was the most-streamed movie of 2023, with 11.6 billion viewing minutes (an all-time Nielsen high). The Disney+ ‘toon has been one of the top four movies in Nielsen’s annual streaming report since 2020.
