It’s no secret that Amanda Waller doesn’t like superheroes. The founder of Task Force X has always made it her business to try and keep metahuman and alien vigilantes under her thumb. However, the latest chapter of Suicide Squad: Dream Team reveals just how far the woman called “the Wall” will go in her bid for Absolute Power.

Written by Nicole Maines, with art by Eddy Barrows, Suicide Squad: Dream Team #3 finds Dreamer on the run from her former teammates. The alien Oneiromancer, who sees the future in her dreams, originally worked with Amanda Waller willingly. That changed when Dreamer saw the future Waller was working toward in her dreams.

The Suicide Squad found Dreamer in Parthas, a small town founded by alien refugees. Waller exposed the town in retaliation for Dreamer abandoning Task Force X, hoping this would bring her back into the fold. Instead, this pushed Dreamer to violence against the anti-alien rioters threatening her adopted hometown. When her teammates refused to back down, Dreamer revealed exactly why she turned against Waller.

Dreamer explained the rationale behind the last Suicide Squad mission to overthrow the new government of Gamorra. The island nation had formerly been run by an anti-metahuman xenophobe who enslaved his metahuman citizens and developed powerful anti-metahuman technologies. Dreamer had thought Waller just meant to bring this arsenal under her control. Instead, Waller had plans to turn Gamorra into an Alcatraz for those aliens and metahumans she couldn’t conscript for the Suicide Squad.

Naturally, the Suicide Squad were more concerned about fulfilling their mission and saving their lives than why Dreamer went rogue. They knocked her out and reported their success. Nevertheless, the revelation did set the stage for the next phase of Amanda Waller’s bid for world domination in the Absolute Power event.
