FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE) – Boardwalk, Park Place and Marvin Gardens. Properties in the board game Monopoly could soon be replaced by Fresno landmarks.

Fresno to get its own official Monopoly board game

“How about Fulton Street instead of Pennsylvania Avenue, or the Water Tower instead of Water Works,” said Fresno Mayor Jerry Dyer.

A licensed version of Fresno Monopoly will soon be produced by Hasbro, the toy maker that launched the original game in 1935. Mr. Monopoly himself came to Fresno for the big announcement along with local mascots and Mayor Dyer.

“This Fresno Monopoly is a chance to be able to create a new type of nostalgia with landmarks and places that are near and dear to each and every one of us who live and grew up in this great city,” said Dyer.

The Fresno Monopoly is expected to hit local store shelves in November, but local folks can weigh in on what should be included.

“We’re putting in our suggestions for what we believe makes the place of Fresno- the things that we are proud of. My first suggestion is the Tower Theater, but we will as a community have many many suggestions,” said Scott Miller with the Fresno City and County Chamber of Commerce.

The community is urged to suggest their favorite landmarks, restaurants, and activities, and once released, have years of enjoyment playing the game.

“We really want to bring what we all love: Monopoly and the little fun competition that you have with your friends and family,” said Jennifer Tripsea of Top Trumps who has the licensing rights from Hasbro to make the “city editions” of the Monopoly game.

Suggestions on what should be included in the Fresno Monopoly should be emailed to Fresno@TopTrumps.com.
