Sufjan’s Anti-'Christian Nation' Message Becomes Washington Post Op-Ed

The“friendly reminder” to fellow Christians originally appeared on Sufjan’s Tumblr.

Sufjan Stevens’ blog post decrying the idea of a Christian nation as “absolutely heretical” has been republished as an op-ed in the Washington Post. “To gain access to true love and true self,” he wrote in the message, “you must die to yourself, to your family, to your heritage, your narrow-minded ideology, your ego, your ill-conditioned consciousness and your false identity.” The piece, almost entirely unchanged from the Tumblr original, was republished under the headline, “Stop repeating the heresy of declaring the United States a ‘Christian nation.’”
