Subway giving away a million subs: Here’s why and how to get one

A big change is underway at Subway restaurants, along with a new sub lineup. Since 2021, Subway has been making changes by remodeling stores and changing up its menu.  Its latest is offering freshly sliced deli meat.

The latest in a major $80-million revamp of the chain's locations is installing deli meat slicers at 20,000 Subway restaurants nationwide. The slicers, Subway says, were gifted to all U.S. franchises.

With the addition of meat slicers, Subway restaurants now can offer freshly sliced meats for their subs.

And the chain will celebrate with free sandwiches on Tuesday.

The new slicers also are making way for more new menu items, which Subway is rolling out under the chain's "Eat Fresh Refresh"  sandwich offerings.

“Over the past two years, we overhauled our expansive pantry of ingredients and debuted a whole new way to Subway with chef-crafted signature sandwiches,” Trevor Haynes, President of North America at Subway, said in a news release. "These major changes led to rave reviews from our guests and record-breaking sales. This year’s changes are even bigger and more transformational. The addition of freshly sliced meats is the most impactful yet as it gives our guests a better sandwich – raising the bar even higher for the brand that defined fresh. We can’t wait for America to taste the difference and see how far we have come on our journey.”

The chain announced its new Deli Heroes subs are an expansion of its Subway Series line of chef-crafted sandwiches. Four Deli Heroes are on the menu featuring more meat and cheese. For example, Subway's new Titan Turkey and Grand Slam Ham subs have 33% more meat than its traditional sub, according to a news release. Other sub sandwiches are the Beast, with a half-pound of meat, and Garlic Roast Beef, which features roasted garlic aioli. All of Subway’s Deli Heroes come with double cheese.

Subway will celebrate the addition of deli slicers additions at stores and the new sandwich line from 10 a.m.-noon Tuesday. with free sandwiches.  At participating Subway restaurants nationwide up to one million free 6-inch size Deli Heroes made with freshly sliced deli meats subs will be given out.
