Sturgis Civic Players to present '12 Incompetent Jurors'

STURGIS — The Sturgis Civic Players will bring “12 Incompetent Jurors,” March 22-24 in the ballroom of the Sturges-Young Center for the Arts.

The show is a parody of “12 Angry Men,” and takes place in a courtroom setting where the jury is deliberating over a case involving a man accused of abducting cats.

“Even though it is clear the defendant is undoubtedly guilty, there is one juror, a wannabe lawyer, who sees things a bit differently,” promoters said in a statement describing the play's premise.

The show is directed by Ryan Davis, with assistance from Michelle Klar, both from Sturgis. There will be three performances, 7 p.m. Friday, March 22, and Saturday, March 23, and 2 p.m. Sunday, March 24. Due to its presentation, the show is recommended for those high school age and older.

“Folks love comedies,” Davis said, “and we have an amazing cast of 16 local actors who put a unique spin on his or her character as they take on the different roles of the cast from the 1957 film.”

Davis said the actors are doing a “great job” as they put the finishing touches on their work.

“They manage to make Michelle and I laugh at every rehearsal," Davis said. “As a first-time director, it’s been such a fun experience seeing them enjoy themselves on stage. We are so excited for everyone to see the show.”

Tickets are $15 for both children and adults and can be purchased by visiting sturgisboxoffice.com. Guests will have the opportunity to buy snacks and special evening cocktails during the show.

The show is presented through a special arrangement with Playscripts.
