Feb. 27—Students from around the region were honored Saturday during the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards ceremony held at the Sutter Theater Center for the Arts in Yuba City.

Well over 100 people attended the Yuba Sutter Arts & Culture ceremony in the Clark Family Theater with attendees having the opportunity to view much of the submitted and winning entries for both art and writing in and around the theater.

Yuba Sutter Arts & Culture is the Northern California Regional Affiliate for the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. The region covers Colusa, Nevada, Placer, Sierra, Sutter, Yolo and Yuba counties.

Officials said more than 200 submissions for both writing and art were submitted this year, which was an all-time record. During the ceremony on Saturday, some select readings were performed by the writing award winners.

"Since 1923, the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards have recognized the vision, ingenuity, and talent of our nation's youth," organizers with Yuba Sutter Arts & Culture previously said. "... Scholastic Awards alumni include Andy Warhol, Sylvia Plath, Truman Capote, Lena Dunham, Robert Redford, Joyce Carol Oates, and many others. Earning a Scholastic art or writing award is often the first moment of validation for a young artist or writer and can function as a catalyst that leads to a lifelong commitment to develop and apply their creative gift — no matter what career or path they choose. The program helps celebrate the accomplishments of creative students, extending opportunities for recognition, exhibition, publication, and scholarships to teenagers who demonstrate exceptional aptitude in writing and art."

Those honored on Saturday include the following:
