JCS Elementary Speech Meet ribbon winners

Students who won a Superior Ribbon at the Johnstown Christian School Elementary Speech Meet March 18, have been announced.

Students of the Month at North Star

Nicklow at Somerset Lions

Maryssa Evon Nicklow, daughter of Eugene Nicklow and Brenda McCoy, Somerset, was selected as the Somerset Lions Club student of the month for April.

Nicklow is a senior at Somerset Area High School where she is enrolled in the college prep course. She participates in the Somerset Rifle Team and choral ensemble. She is secretary of the chorus and a two-year letterman for rifle. Nicklow is a member of the French National Honor Society and is a 2014 Relay For Life Ambassador.She is a member of the Jerome Sportsmen's Junior Rifle Team and the New Baltimore Sportsmen's Club. She attends Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.

After graduating, Nicklow plans to pursue a career in nursing.

Her hobbies include hunting and fishing, spending time with family and friends, camping, shopping, and she loved cooking and baking where her Grandma Mary.

Sayler, Donaldson at Meyersdale Lions

Elizabeth Sayler and Trevor Donaldson have been chosen to represent Meyersdale Area High School at the April meetings of the Meyersdale Lions Club.

Trevor is the son of Daniel and Stephanie Donaldson of Meyersdale. His extracurricular activities and awards include National Honor Society, 1000+ SAT/PSAT Club, FFA second vice president, FFA Keystone Degree, wrestling, baseball, cross country, weightlifting, and academic letter and pin award.

Following graduation Donaldson plans to attend Penn State University and major in animal science.

­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­Elizabeth is the daughter of Tim and April Kretchman of Meyersdale and John Sayler of Garrett. Her extracurricular activities and awards include National Honor Society, senior class president, Raider Review school newspaper editor-in-chief, National Merit Scholarship Commended Student, 1000+ SAT/PSAT Club, “A” Average Club, honor roll, academic letter and pin award, musical lead role, marching and concert band, district chorus and regional qualifier, cross country state qualifier, and track.

Following graduation Sayler plans to attend Duke University and major in psychology.

Confluence Lions Club students

Confluence Lions Club students of the month for February from Turkeyfoot Valley High School are Payj Hostetler and Mallori McCarty-Cameron.

Payj Hostetler a senior at Turkeyfoot Valley Area High School, is the daughter of Robert and Rachel Hostetler. She is active in varsity basketball and softball. She is a member of National Honor Society, student council, prom committee, youth group, and a church council member at United Community Church of God.

Her future plans include attending California University of Pennsylvania to study secondary education social studies and become a teacher.

Mallori McCarty-Cameron, the daughter of Stacey McCarty and Charlie Cameron, is a senior at Turkeyfoot Valley High School. She is a member of Chess Club, secretary of Art Club and National Honor Society, president of student council and prom committee, and class vice president. Additionally, she has been a member of the softball team for three years and will play her last season this year.

Outside of school she has a job at Laurel Highlands Outdoor Center. In her free time, McCarty-Cameron enjoys reading, painting, rafting and hiking. In the fall, she will be attending California University of Pennsylvania and hopes to major in secondary education.
