What to stream this weekend: 'Without Remorse'; Netflix's 'The Mitchells vs. the Machines'

Movie theaters are slowly reopening for the summer season, but new streaming films are still coming home to entertain you and your family during socially distanced times.
This weekend, Michael B. Jordan becomes a Tom Clancy action hero; Amanda Seyfried scares up a Netflix horror flick; recent best actor Oscar winner Anthony Hopkins stars in a hitman noir; and a cast featuring disabled performers unleashes an inclusive feel-good musical.
If you're planning to return to your local theater, the BAFTA-nominated "Limbo" centers on a Syrian refugee musician (Amir El-Masry) seeking asylum in Scotland, and the drama "Four Good Days" stars Mila Kunis as a heroin addict and Glenn Close as her loving mom.
'Best Summer Ever': It's a feel-good musical and a big win for disability inclusion
But if you'd rather stick closer to home, here's a rundown of new movies hitting streaming and on-demand platforms this weekend, for every cinematic taste:
If you need another cool hero in your life: 'Tom Clancy's Without Remorse'
You could do worse for an action figure than Jordan, whose intensity lifts this solid-enough thriller based on the Tom Clancy novel. In the franchise-starting action thriller, John Kelly (Jordan) is a Navy SEAL whose pregnant wife (Lauren London) is killed by Russian assassins taking out Kelly's entire squad, and obviously there is much hell to pay, plus a U.S./Russian war to stave off. Is it too early to hope for a crossover between Jordan's stoic good guy and John Krasinski's Jack Ryan? Make it happen, Jeff Bezos!

If you want to watch the year's best animated movie (so far): 'The Mitchells vs. the Machines'
Leave it to producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (the guys behind "The Lego Movie" and "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse") to make a joyful, touching family comedy set in a robo-pocalypse. On the eve of going to film school, Katie Mitchell (voiced by Abbi Jacobson) is forced to go on a road trip with her parents (Danny McBride and Maya Rudolph) when a digital machine uprising occurs and the family has to get past some relationship issues to save mankind.

If you yearn for something spooky: 'Things Heard & Seen'
Following up her "Mank" Oscar nod, Seyfried stars in this decent 1980-set throwback as a young mom who moves to rural upstate New York when her husband (James Norton) scores a gig as an art-history professor. She finds out there's some dark history in the farmhouse they've moved into, and supernatural forces and relationship issues complicate their personal and professional lives to a freaky degree.

If you're an Anthony Hopkins completist: 'The Virtuoso'
Sadly, this twisty yet oh-so-predictable crime thriller isn't as great as Hopkins' "The Father," but the acting legend, plus Anson Mount, keep it watchable. Mount plays a reserved hitman who takes cryptic missions from his boss and mentor (Hopkins), and his latest assignment takes him to a diner where he meets a friendly waitress (Abbie Cornish) and has to figure out which of the patrons is his target.

If you want to see 'Glow' crossed with 'Over the Top': 'Golden Arm'
Mary Holland, who had a hilarious breakout role in last year's surprise holiday hit "Happiest Season," is delightful in this goofy and empowering buddy comedy. When her trucker BFF (a nicely unhinged Betsy Sodaro) can't compete in a big arm-wrestling tournament, goody-two-shoes baker Melanie (Holland) becomes a reluctant replacement but quickly starts out-muscling the very colorful competition.

If you're not familiar with the great Brian Tyree Henry: 'The Outside Story'
After noteworthy supporting roles in "Atlanta" and "If Beale Street Could Talk," Henry heads up this uplifting dramedy about a Brooklyn video editor who becomes even more of a shut-in after a breakup. Getting locked out of his apartment leads to a busy day full of misadventures, some touching moments and new friendships as he gets to know his neighbors in a movie that feels particularly poignant coming out of a pandemic.

If you need an inclusive pick-me-up: 'Best Summer Ever'
This refreshing movie musical would be notable just for an impressively large cast featuring disabled performers, but it's also a charming mashup of "High School Musical," "Footloose" and "Grease," with just enough subversion. (The top football jock is a prize kicker!) Shannon DeVido and Rickey Wilson Jr. play youngsters who fall in love at summer dance camp and somehow end up at the same high school for hijinks, misunderstanding, life-affirming lessons and a slew of catchy tunes.

If you love awkward underdogs: 'Eat Wheaties!'
In this low-key comedy about the power of empathy, Tony Hale plays an oddball Arizona marketing executive assigned to head up a Penn reunion trying to get in touch with Hollywood star Elizabeth Banks, whom he claims is a friend from college. A series of unfortunate events leads to a restraining order and going viral for all the wrong reasons, forcing our hero to re-examine life and relationships after a spectacular fall.
