'Stranger Things' Star Defends Himself Against Fan Outrage Over Barb's Fate

On The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, David Harbour stopped in to talk about his role as Sheriff Hopper on the Netflix drama Stranger Things, and he brought up how the show’s popular character Barb is gone but definitely not forgotten by fans.

Barb, who was best friends with Nancy, was on the series for only a few episodes before being taken by the mysterious monster to the Upside Down and seemingly overlooked by the sheriff while he was looking for Will Byers, another lost child.

“The character is in two episodes, barely,” said Harbour, so the intense “Internet rage at Chief Hopper over not caring about Barb” was surprising to him. “I’m sorry,” he joked.

When Fallon asked about the possibility of the character returning to the show for next season, Harbour said there will be justice for Barb, but “if you think she’s coming back, she’s fully dead.”

The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. ET/10:35 p.m. CT on NBC.
