'Stranger Things' Star David Harbour Would Also Like To Know If This Character Is Really Dead

Fans of Stranger Things were rather devastated that Sheriff Hopper (David Harbour) seemed to die at the end of the third season. The beloved character seemed to sacrifice himself in a fiery explosion to save Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder) and the rest of Hawkins, IN.

While an explosion seems rather final, we never saw a body. A good rule of pop culture deaths is that if we never see a body, anything is possible. Also, a reference to "The American" in a post-credit scene set in a Russian prison also sent viewers down theorizing rabbit holes.

Harbour Would Like Answers Too

David Harbour is hosting SNL this weekend, and he stopped by Late Night With Seth Meyers ahead of the gig. Obviously, his character's seeming demise came up, and Harbour admitted that he doesn't know anything (could be a lie) and that he would like answers too.

However, he did make a good point about Hopper's character arc.

"Well, here’s the thing. I always knew that Hopper had to make a sacrifice. Like, he’s a jerk, and he also needs to pay for that in some way… So I thought he’d make the sacrifice."

He also thought when he first read the script that he was CLEARLY "The American."

"And I was like, ‘Oh, clearly I’m the American.’ And then I haven’t gotten many phone calls."

Waiting For Season 4

Harbour was curious enough about his fate that he and Meyers FaceTimed Stranger Things creators the Duffer Brothers while they were filming the show. Harbour asked them a hilariously straightforward question -- "Am I dead?" -- to which Ross Duffer replied "I mean, we’re still figuring it out, David."

Harbour had a jokingly pert reply.

"You guys are a ton of help. Really wonderful work. Good luck with season four. Love you, bye."

Harbour is in the upcoming Black Widow film hitting theaters in 2020, so it's not like he's sitting around waiting for Hopper to be resurrected. But really, Duffer Brothers, please. Don't kill off Hop for good.
