‘Stranger Things’ Netflix Series Adds Two New Regulars, Promotes Two For Season 2
Netflix’s much talked-about summer drama Stranger Things is casting up for Season 2.
The supernatural drama series from brothers Matt and Ross Duffer has added new series regulars Sadie Sink and Dacre Montgomery and promoted Joe Keery (Steve Harrington) and Noah Schnapp (Will Byers) to regulars from recurring. They’ll join series stars Winona Ryder, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin and Millie Bobby Brown, who recently signed with WME in a very competitive situation.
Sink will play Max, a tough and confident girl whose appearance, behavior and pursuits seem more typical of boys than girls of this era. She has a complicated history and is generally suspicious of those around her.
Montgomery is Billy, Max’s hyper-confident and edgy older step-brother. He steals girlfriends away from their boyfriends, is great at drinking games, and drives a black Camaro. But lurking under his apparent charisma is a violent and unpredictable nature.
Sink began her professional acting career in the Broadway revival of Annie and also on Broadway opposite Helen Mirren in The Audience. On television, she appeared as a series regular on NBC’s American Odyssey, as well as in guest spots on Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Blue Bloods, and The Americans. She will next be seen in upcoming features The Glass Castle and The Bleeder.
Aussie actor Montgomery recently wrapped Lionsgate’s first installment of the Power Rangers franchise opposite Elizabeth Banks, Bryan Cranston and RJ Cyler.
The Duffers are developing nine new episodes for the second season for premiere in 2017. They’ll be joined by fellow executive producers Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen. The series stars Ryder as a single mom trying to discover what is really going on in her small town in this tale of her missing child (played by Schnnapp).
Stranger Things has received critical praise and a lot of buzz since it premiered on Netflix on July 15, and it’s definitely high on the list of shows subscribers are watching.
According to stats provided by Symphony Advanced Media, Stranger Things was just behind Orange is the New Black and Fuller House in viewership within its first 35 days on Netflix.
