“Stranger Things”' Finn Wolfhard Confesses He Was 'Really Jealous' in Season 4, Is 'Conflicted' About Show's End

Wolfhard also teased the show's fifth and final season "is huge, but it's also kind of isolated as well."

With his journey on Stranger Things coming to a close, Finn Wolfhard is trying to be as present as possible.

As filming for the highly anticipated fifth and final season is well underway, Wolfhard opened up about what fans can expect in the next installment of Netflix's hit series. With season 4 ending at "sort of a crossroads," the actor, who's helmed the role of Mike Wheeler since age 13, told The Hollywood Reporter that the cast was "getting back into a lot of the dynamics of season 1."

"Every season has gotten bigger and bigger and bigger, and this season is huge, but it’s also kind of isolated as well," he said.

The fourth season of Stranger Things featured three different storylines, including one where Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo), Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin), Erica (Priah Ferguson), Max (Sadie Sink), Steve (Joe Keery), Nancy (Natalia Dyer), Eddie (Joseph Quinn) and Robin (Maya Hawke) team up to solve a string of gruesome murders that takes them straight to Vecna's (Jamie Campbell Bower) lair in the Upside Down.

Wolfhard explained that the different plot points last season kept the cast divided — and even stirred feelings of jealousy after learning of the storyline most of the cast brought to life.

“We really didn’t shoot very much for the first few months of production, because they were so focused on all the Hawkins stuff. So I was really jealous,” the Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire actor continued. “Even when I finally watched the show, my favorite part was watching the other guys in Hawkins. I just liked that storyline so much."

He added, "Not being around everyone all the time was definitely a bummer about filming 4, but 5 is the opposite. We’re all together all the time.”

Now that Hawkins' favorite team of heroes is three months into production, Wolfhard shared that the road to filming the last season has been "really crazy."

"You think about how to be as present as possible, but then at the same time, you’re conflicted that this is the last one," he said. "So I’m trying to find that balance of staying present while also knowing that this is going to be the last season. But it’s been great."

Though Netflix has yet to reveal the official plotline for season 5, it will likely follow the Hawkins kids as they try to defeat Vecna once and for all now that the Upside Down has invaded their town.

Show creators Matt and Ross Duffer have previously teased the show's emotional endgame and shared that some Netflix executives actually shed a few tears after hearing their plans for the fifth season.

"We do have an outline for Season 5 and we pitched it to Netflix and they really responded well to it," Ross told The Wrap. "I mean, it was hard. It's the end of the story. I saw executives crying who I've never seen cry before and it was wild."
