Stone Temple Pilots Unite With Live, Soul Asylum, Our Lady Peace For Epic ’90s Throwback Tour

Stone Temple Pilots, Live, Soul Asylum, and Our Lady Peace are going to party like it’s 1994 on the Jubilee Tour this summer. STP will celebrate the anniversary of their 1994 LP Purple, and Live will spotlight their 1994 album Throwing Copper. “Fans of the iconic bands can expect a night of hit songs from those albums,” reads a press release, “and much more, with a full set of music by each group spanning generations.”

The co-headlining tour kicks off Aug. 16 in Concord, California, and wraps up Sept. 15 in Indianapolis, Indiana. STP are closing the show roughly half the nights, and Live are playing last on the others. Ticket sales start March 22.

The current lineup of Stone Temple Pilots features founding members Dean DeLeo (guitar), Robert DeLeo (bass), and Eric Kretz (drums). Singer Jeff Gutt has been fronting the band since 2017, two years after the death of Scott Weiland. They’ve released two albums (2018’s Stone Temple Pilots and 2020’s Perdida) with Gutt as the singer, but their live show focuses heavily on their Nineties hits.

Original Live lead singer Ed Kowalczyk is still in the band, but he parted ways with guitarist Chad Taylor, drummer Chad Gracey, and bassist Patrick Dahlheimer in 2022 following a messy series of personal and business disputes. Just a few years earlier, Taylor, Gracey, and Dahlheimer toured and recorded as Live with replacement singer Chris Shinn. That means if you saw Live during that era and you see them again this summer, you’re seeing two totally different sets of musicians. Soul Asylum singer Dave Pirner is the last remaining member of the Grave Dancer’s Union lineup, and Our Lady Peace still has original singer Raine Maida. Bassist Duncan Coutts joined in 1995. The other members came onboard in the 2000s.

Regardless of who is in and who is out of these bands, expect a long evening of Nineties hits like “Interstate Love Song,” “Plush,” “Big Empty,” “Lightning Crashes,” “Selling The Drama,” “I Alone,” “Runaway Train,” “Black Gold,” “Misery,” “Superman’s Dead,” ‘Clumsy,” and “One Man Army.”
