Apple is celebrating Steve Martin’s legacy with the trailer for STEVE! (martin) a documentary in 2 pieces.

The two-part documentary chronicles how Martin ended up becoming one of the biggest figures in comedy, featuring never-before-seen footage from the stand-up comedian-turned-movie star’s half-century-long career.

STEVE! (martin) is split in two: “Then” and “Now.” The first part is said to follow Martin’s “early struggles and meteoric rise to revolutionize standup before walking away at 35,” while the latter part focuses on his current life, with Martin “in the golden years of his career, retracing the transformation that led to happiness in his art and personal life.”

The trailer previews both parts, featuring archival footage and TV appearances. In a snippet from one of Martin’s interviews for the project, he candidly shares how he felt about his rise to fame. “I was launched into the stratosphere. I was scared out of my mind,” he admits, as posters from a variety of his biggest cinematic hits appear onscreen, including Parenthood and Father of the Bride.

He additionally touches on how much he’s emotionally grown since the start of his career. “How did I go from riddled with anxiety in my 30s to 75 and really happy?” he wonders.

The trailer also features a look at Martin’s current-day close friendship with his longtime friend and frequent collaborator, Martin Short.

“Why don’t I interview you as we’re driving?” asks Short while having a bike ride with Martin.

“It’s called biking, but sure,” responds Martin, as they share a chuckle.

In another snippet, Short accompanies his Only Murders in the Building co-star to drop off laundry.

“Don’t you have a score of servants take your laundry over?” jokes Short.

Martin responds, “Actually, I’m just doing this for camera. It’s the first time in 27 years.”

Besides Short, Tina Fey and Jerry Seinfeld are among Martin’s peers who appear in the trailer, praising the comedian’s work.

“This guy was getting people so happy,” says Seinfeld. “He’s the most idolized comedian ever.”

Tina Fey adds, “There is a longing at the center of everybody he shows us.”

STEVE! (martin) was made by Oscar-winning documentarian Morgan Neville (20 Feet From Stardom, Won’t You Be My Neighbor?). It streams on Apple TV+ on March 29.
