We’re not crying — you are. Steve Irwin would’ve been “happy” for daughter Bindi’s engagement, says wife Terri Irwin. Bindi Irwin, the late Crocodile Hunter’s 21-year-old daughter, announced her engagement to longtime boyfriend, Chandler Powell, on Wednesday —July 24, Bindi’s birthday — with two photos on Twitter. The photos featured Bindi and Powell in a sweet hug, as the bride-to-be showed off her engagement ring to the camera. “On my birthday I said ‘yes’ & ‘forever’ to the love of my life. Chandler, close to 6 years ago I fell in love with you & every day since has been a whirlwind of adventure & true happiness,” Bindi wrote. “Here’s to a lifetime of friendship, purpose & unconditional love❤️”

Following the engagement announcement, Bindi’s mom, Terri Irwin, took to Twitter to congratulate her daughter on the milestone. Terri, a conservationist and owner of the Australia Zoo in Queensland, gushed over how “very happy” she was for her daughter and how her late husband, Steve Irwin, would’ve been the same. “Best day ever! Chandler asked and beautiful @BindiIrwin said yes. I am so very happy, and I know Steve would be too. Congratulations!!” Terri wrote, alongside a photo of Bindi, Powell and her son Robert, 15.

Steve Irwin, the host of the wildlife documentary series The Crocodile Hunter, passed away on September 4, 2006 after he was stung in the heart by a short-tail stingray in Queensland, Australia. Powell proposed to Bindi at the Australia Zoo (owned by her parents), where the two met and Powell was hosting a 21st birthday party in honor of his girlfriend of six years. Little did she know that he would pop the question that day.

“She said YES! ❤️💍 Almost 6 years ago we met at Australia Zoo. I immediately fell head over heels for her kind and thoughtful heart that radiates so much light,” Powell wrote on his Instagram. “Proposing in her very favorite place in the zoo, surrounded by animals, seemed like the perfect way to embark on this incredible new chapter in our lives. Bee, I love you more than anything in this world and I always will. Happy Birthday.”
