HBO has officially granted a straight-to-series order to the upcoming Steve Carell-led college comedy, which hails from veteran TV producers Bill Lawrence (Ted Lasso) and Matt Tarses (Scrubs).

“The untitled show is a single-camera comedy set on a college campus, centering on an author’s complicated relationship with his daughter,” reads the logline.

This marks Carell’s latest major TV project after recently signing on to star opposite Tina Fey in the Netflix series The Four Seasons. Following his iconic performance as Michael Scott in The Office, Carell was able to show off his skills in the drama genre, thanks to his appearances on The Morning Show and The Patient. Prior to his upcoming HBO comedy, he previously headlined Netflix’s short-lived workplace comedy Space Force.

Who’s involved in Steve Carell’s college comedy series?

The untitled comedy is executive produced by Lawrence and Tarses, who are also writing the first episode. In addition to leading the cast, Carell will executive produce alongside Liza Katzer and Jeff Ingold. It is a production by Warner Bros. Television.

“We’re so excited to be collaborating with the dream team of Steve Carell, Bill Lawrence, and Matt Tarses on what is sure to be a brilliant new series,” WB TV boss Channing Dungey said in a statement. “Collectively, they have been at the center of some of the most iconic and successful shows in television history. With thanks to our partners at HBO, we look forward to bringing them together to deliver the next great comedy.”
