Steve Buscemi Attacked in New York City in a 'Random Act of Violence'

Steve Buscemi was the victim of a "random act of violence" in New York City last week. The actor was walking in the Kips Bay neighborhood of Manhattan just before noon on May 8 when an unidentified assailant punched him in the face.

According to the New York Post, the attack was unprovoked and the man who punched him fled the scene. Police are searching for the alleged assailant, who was bearded and wearing a baseball cap, a blue T-shirt, and black sweatpants. Following the attack, Buscemi was taken to Bellevue Hospital to be examined, and reportedly suffered swelling to his face and left eye.

"Steve Buscemi was assaulted in Mid-Town [sic] Manhattan, another victim of a random act of violence in the city,” his publicist said in a statement. "He is OK and appreciates everyone’s well wishes, though incredibly sad for everyone that this has happened to while also walking the streets of New York."

TMZ obtained a photo of the 66-year-old on Monday, who could be seen with a blackened left eye nearly a week after the attack,

The timing of the attack comes just a month after Buscemi's Boardwalk Empire co-star Michael Stuhlbarg was also allegedly attacked by a 27-year-old unhoused man while jogging near Central Park. The man reportedly threw a rock at Stuhlbarg, which hit him on the back of the neck. However, in that incident, the Doctor Strange actor chased the man to the nearby Russian consulate where he was arrested by police.

Stuhlbarg suffered a bruise to his neck as a result of the incident but declined medical attention.
