Stephen Merchant on why the Rock would make a 'terrific' president: 'Almost no executive time'

Stephen Merchant thinks Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson would make a good president.

While it may not be an official endorsement from the writer and director of Fighting With My Family, which features Johnson, it is one of four main Rock-related topics that Merchant hit on while chatting with Yahoo Entertainment last week.

Merchant began by breaking down why, instead of being intimidated by Johnson when first meeting him, Merchant found the professional wrestler and action movie star looking up to him.

“He looks up to me. Not just because of my career and talent and charisma,” Merchant said. “But also, he literally looks up at me. Because he’s 6 foot 5 and I’m 6 foot 7.”

Merchant, whose film follows a family of wrestlers and is currently in theaters, went on to say that he thinks Johnson is “the busiest man alive.”

“If you’re waiting for him, it is a bit like you’re waiting for the pope,” Merchant quipped. “But once he comes into the room and is working with you, he’s 100 percent focused, he gives you his full attention.”

Johnson can also help bring out the inner-wrestler in people. Which Merchant perfectly demonstrated for us with his Shakespeare-inspired persona, the Merchant of Menace.

And when it comes to politics, Merchant thinks Johnson has many of the right qualities to be president.

“He definitely works harder than the existing president, I’m pretty sure that the Rock has almost no executive time,” Merchant said, referring to President Trump. “He would be a terrific president, he’s got the charm, he’s already got the popularity. I don’t know personally what his policies would be. I just hope there would be a place for me in the Cabinet.”
