Stephen King adapting Lisey's Story as series for Julianne Moore

No one is touching Stephen King’s Lisey’s Story except him.

The author has adapted his 2006 novel, which is his personal favorite of his books, for an eight-episode series on Apple TV, starring Julianne Moore as the title character.

The book is a psychological thriller and dark love story about Lisey Landon, a widow who is finally cleaning out the belongings of her novelist husband two years after his death.

Finally deciding to let go of his possessions leads her to confront the dead man’s past, their life together, and puts her in conflict with a disturbed fan who is obsessed with his writing.

The film is just the latest of King’s adaptations, and the announcement comes after the new version of Pet Sematary had a strong debut at the global box office. This year will also see the release of It: Chapter 2, The Shining sequel Doctor Sleep, and new versions of The Tommyknockers, The Stand, and finally an adaptation of The Talisman (which he wrote with Peter Straub) are also in the works, among others.

“I don’t know what to make of it, really,” King said in a recent interview with EW. “Every day I get another contract, another option, word that somebody is making this or that. I see scripts. Let’s put it this way, I’m in a seller’s market right now. There’s a huge hunger for story, because there’s so many different platforms now. It isn’t just the movies.”

J.J. Abrams will executive produce the Lisey’s Story series through his Bad Robot productions, and King, Moore, and Ben Stephenson will also be executive producers, according to The Hollywood Reporter  which broke the news.

No release date for the show was announced.
