Stephen Curry Doc ‘Underrated’ From A24 Lands at Apple

Apple Original Films has acquired a documentary feature film about NBA and Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry called “Underrated” that is being produced by A24 and “Black Panther” filmmaker Ryan Coogler, Apple announced on Wednesday.

The film, which was first announced back in August 2021, will be directed and produced by Peter Nicks (“The Force,” “Homeroom”) and produced by Coogler for his Proximity Media, as well as Curry’s own Unanimous Media. “Underrated” is being made under Unanimous Media’s first look production deal with A24.

“Underrated” will follow Curry’s historic success during the 2008 March Madness NCAA Tournament, as well as his record-shattering and game-changing playing style that turned him from an overlooked prospect to an NBA legend. The film culminates in his incredible 2022 run to a fourth NBA title and his first NBA Finals Most Valuable Player trophy.

Proximity Media’s Sev Ohanian (“Judas and the Black Messiah,” “Space Jam: A New Legacy”) and Zinzi Coogler (“Judas and the Black Messiah,” “Space Jam: A New Legacy”) are executive producing the documentary. From Stephen Curry’s Unanimous Media, Erick Peyton (“Benedict Men,” “Jump Shot,” “The Queen of Basketball”) will also produce alongside Jenelle Lindsay co-executive producing on behalf of the company.

“Underrated” is named for Steph Curry’s Underrated Tour, in which Curry provides training regimens specifically for high school athletes who have been given a three-star prospect rating and are being overlooked by most colleges or scouts, just as he was when he was a senior in high school in North Carolina.

“Underrated” also follows A24’s docuseries for Apple TV+ called “Home,” which just launched Season 2 on the streamer.
