Stephen Colbert slams ‘Trump’s phone buddy,’ conspiracy theorist Alex Jones

Stephen Colbert shed light on one of “Trump’s phone buddies” and sources of information, Infowars conspiracy theorist and 9/11 truther Alex Jones. Mocking the blustery rants that’ve become signature of Jones, Colbert shouted into the Late Show camera Wednesday night, “This is why you don’t mix steroids with peyote! This is why! This is it!”

According to The New York Times, Jones is “taking on a new role as occasional information source and validator for the president of the United States” and “sometimes speaks on the phone” with Trump, as shown in a video clip from one of his Infowars segments. Jones is also reportedly looking to gain Infowars a White House press credential.

“If you’ve been living underground for the past few years, you probably listen to Alex Jones,” Colbert joked. “But for the rest of you, he runs a conspiracy website called Infowars. It’s easy to remember — just imagine ‘info,’ then imagine someone at ‘war’ with it — and Trump’s new phone buddy has gained a reputation for telling it like it isn’t.”

The Late Show host screened clips for the audience of Jones raving about a variety of topics. Among Jones’ false claims and conspiracy theories: a “chemical warfare operation” turns men and frogs gay, “every major Western country” was involved in the 9/11 terrorist attack, the Sandy Hook school shooting was “fake,” “the attacks in Orlando were a false flag terror attack,” and how sometimes he hears his own show as “a monkey doing you-know-what with a football.”

“So, to recap,” Colbert said, “one of the counselor’s to the president knows what it sounds like when a monkey f— a football.”
