Stephen Colbert ‘Late Show’ Debut: George Clooney’s Fake Movie & A Wedding Gift

Updated with video: Guess you could call George Clooney a sort of Late Show bridge guest. The Oscar-winning actor was part of David Letterman’s final week of shows as host of the CBS staple, and tonight he was the first guest on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.

“You could have worn a tie,” Colbert pseudo-scolded the Hollywood-uniformed Clooney. The host thanked his guest for showing up without a project to plug. “I’m just here to see you,” the multihyphenate replied. Colbert remarked, “You’re one of those rare famous people who cares about something other than himself.” Clooney brushed that off, and the two talked about his work to bring attention to the genocide in Darfur.

Then they turned to important stuff — Clooney’s wife, Amal. “What is like to be the arm candy in a relationship?” he asked. Banter ensued until Colbert presented him with a “wedding present.” “This isn’t Comedy Central swag,” Clooney remarked about the paperweight engraved with “I don’t know you.”

“We could pretend that you have a movie right now — some kind of action thriller,” Colbert said. “Let’s call it Decision Strike. You play the tough, no-nonsense Secretary-General of the UN.” Then they went to a clip. “Not now, dammit, I’m defusing a nuclear bomb!” Clooney admonished someone who knocked at his office door.

Clooney also noted that he wrote and directed it too. But it’s also has romance. Cue Clip No. 2: “Not now, dammit, I’m making love to a woman!” Clip 3 showed him “doing his own stunts.” Colbert: “Do not tell me what happens next!” Clooney: “I won’t — because the movie does not exist.” Colbert: “And the sex scenes?” “Oh, those happened.”The host then thanked him “for being my first guest. That’s one down and please come back many, many times. He’s George Clooney, and the movie is Decision Strike!”
