Stephen Colbert or Patricia Heaton: Who’s the Better Catholic?

On The Late Show, Patricia Heaton and Stephen Colbert discussed the fact that they’re both Hollywood types and practicing Catholics — and before long, they found themselves in a Catholic throw-down! With such challenging questions as “How many places did Mary appear?” and “As a Catholic, how do you sell your house faster?” they tested their catechism and found each other worthy opponents. In a final round, Colbert couldn’t even finish his eloquent question “What’s the thing called with the thing with the radiant lines you hold the host in, it’s got a little glass thing, and you carry it around…” before Heaton correctly cut him off with “the monstrance.” And she posed to him: “Fill in the blank: Whosoever wears this … shall never endure the fires of hell,” to which Colbert gleefully retorted “scapular!” bringing the competition to a tie.

Each impressed with the other’s knowledge, they wrapped it up with high fives, only to realize they never talked about her TV show, which was the whole point of her being there in the first place.

The Late Show With Stephen Colbert airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. on CBS.
