Stephen Colbert’s Live Election Show Has Very Somber Tone

The Late Show With Stephen Colbert was on hiatus Tuesday night so Stephen could host his election special on Showtime, Stephen Colbert’s Live Election Night Democracy’s Series Finale: Who’s Going to Clean Up This Sh*t? It was essentially The Late Show, but with more foul language. Throughout the show, Stephen and his guests had a difficult time staying positive as election results were showing Donald Trump in the lead. Political analyst, Mark Halperin, said “Outside of the Civil War, World War II, and including 9/11, this may be the most cataclysmic event the country has ever seen.” Jeff Goldblum had a similarly difficult time staying positive, saying, “I'm very frightened, I’m very alarmed, I’m sobered and upset.” Although, the most shocking comments of the night came from comedian, Jena Friedman, like when Stephen asked her how she was feeling and she responded with, “I feel like I'm about to give birth to a baby that is already dead.” Stephen wanted to end the night on a positive note in an attempt to bring the country together after a very divisive election. The Late Show host said, “Kiss a Democrat, go hug a Republican, give a Libertarian a reach around… Goodnight and may god bless America!”
