Stephen Colbert fails Canadian citizenship interview
One of Americans’ favorite political complaints is declaring they’ll move to Canada if such-and-such bad thing happens. If Donald Trump gets elected, if Obamacare is approved by the Supreme Court, if a law is passed, political opponents of those threaten to move to the Great White North. So on Thursday night, Stephen Colbert investigated what it would actually take to move to Canada.
With the help of Canadian immigration lawyer Andrew Cumming, Colbert learned about the immigration process. Cumming asked him several questions about the Canadian government, all of which Colbert answered with jokes about Canadian stereotypes. For instance, what are two symbols of Canada? Colbert responded, “the maple leaf and the Barenaked Lady.” What are the three branches of government? “The NHL, Tim Horton’s, and Alan Thicke.”
“Not quite a citizen. In fact, not even a permanent resident, but we would love to have you,” Cumming said.
