Stephen Colbert Answers ‘The Lord of the Rings’ Questions, Proves He’s the One to Rule Them All

Stephen Colbert has never hidden his love for – or boundless knowledge of – The Lord of the Rings. The late-night host has done everything from showing up James Franco during a trivia battle on The Colbert Report, to sending director Peter Jackson a video question about elves, to cosplaying as some of its famous characters for Entertainment Weekly, to taking some scientists to task about their LOTR tribute, to fighting for the rights of a Turkish man imprisoned for his Gollum-related insult, to even cameoing in Jackson’s The Hobbit. So it’s no surprise that, before a recent taping of The Late Show, Colbert — while fielding his usual nightly questions from the crowd — was thrilled when the topic turned to J.R.R. Tolkien.

In a new video from The Late Show above, Colbert proves that there’s nothing he likes more than fielding queries about his beloved fantasy saga. From expounding on his favorite Tolkien character (and Frodo’s ability to pull off his daring mission), to naming the hero he’d most like to interview on his show, Colbert reconfirms that there’s no subject he’s more comfortable — or enthusiastic — speaking about. It’s enough to make even the heartiest fan bow his or her head in reverence.
