Stephanie Ruhle to take Brian Williams' '11th Hour' slot on MSNBC; 'Morning Joe' will expand

MSNBC's Stephanie Ruhle will be switching shifts on the cable network to take on Brian Williams' "The 11th Hour" slot at 11 p.m. EST.

The senior business anchor and correspondent will leave her 9 a.m. EST show, and "Morning Joe" will expand in a revamp expected to take effect this spring. Rhule will continue to appear across all NBC platforms after the switch, according to a staff memo from NBC News chief Rashida Jones, confirming earlier reports.

"Stephanie has been a staple of our dayside anchor team and a trusted voice on topics at the intersection of politics, finance and international business," the memo said, noting the anchor's "business acumen" and "hard-hitting interview style."

Replacing "MSNBC Live with Stephanie Ruhle," "Morning Joe" will extend an extra hour, airing from 6 a.m. until 10 a.m. EST.

The announcement comes a little more than a month after Williams, who has been with NBC for 28 years, signed off of "11th Hour" for the last time on Dec. 9.

Rhule has been with MSNBC since 2016. In addition to her 9 a.m. slot the anchor also appears on MSNBC'S afternoon "MSNBC Live with Velshi & Ruhle” show. Before joining the NBC peacock, she was an anchor and managing editor for Bloomberg TV.

The 46-year-old has also worked at Deutsche Bank as a managing director and started her career as a credit derivatives salesperson.

During Williams' December goodbye, the anchor gave a stern warning about the future of America saying that his "biggest worry is for my country."

"I'm not a liberal or a conservative. I'm an institutionalist. I believe in this place and in my love of country. I yield to no one. But the darkness on the edge of town has spread to main roads." Williams said. "Grown men and women who swore an oath to our constitution, elected by their constituents … have decided to join the mob and become something they are not."

CNN reported this week that Williams has since turned down an offer to anchor the "CBS Evening News," now hosted by Norah O'Donnell. But in announcing his MSNBC departure, he said "I have been truly blessed. I have been allowed to spend almost half of my life with one company. NBC is a part of me and always will be."
