Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger reminds us why it’s almost the end of an era

On Wednesday, Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger spoke to the media and talked about the team and why there is no music in the locker room and how this came about.

Roethlisberger gave everyone a real reminder of a couple of things. First, he offered all the young players and fans a bit of insight as to what it means to be a Steeler. He talked about how the lack of music was out of respect for former owner Dan Rooney and how much more important it was to be sure when he came to see the team and wanted to talk, there were no interruptions.

But by telling this story and talking about how he was the one who let players know, it reminds us it is nearly the end of an era. Roethlisberger is the last of the guys, along with Cam Heyward I suppose, who still represent what it means to be a Steelers the way Mr. Rooney would have wanted it. Once he’s gone, changes will come and they may not be for the better.
