The Pittsburgh Steelers make emergency landing in Kansas City.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are safe after the team’s charter flight home made an emergency landing in Kansas City early Monday morning.

The Steelers were heading home after winning their game against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday, and per Pittsburgh CBS affiliate KDKA News, which had two journalists on board, the plane landed in Kansas City around 5:00 a.m. local time due to an issue with the oil pressure failing in one of the engines. A replacement plane was sent to return the team to Pittsburgh.

Steelers senior director of communications Burt Lauten updated fans on the team’s status via X (formerly known as Twitter). “Our team charter plane was unexpectedly diverted to Kansas City early this morning on our way back to Pittsburgh following our game in Las Vegas,” he posted. “Everyone on the plane is safe, and we are making necessary plans to arrive back in Pittsburgh later today.”

Meanwhile, the team’s defensive end, Cam Heyward, revealed he was in good spirits despite the emergency landing when he cracked a joke about the rumored relationship between Taylor Swift and Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce

Swift created quite the stir on Sunday when she watched the Chiefs play the Chicago Bears in Kelce’s private suite in Kansas City. Heyword joked on X, “Yo @taylorswift13 & @tkelce we might need a ride to Pittsburgh.”

He also joked that the diversion had to do with a call against safety Minkah Fitzpatrick during the game. “Dang emergency landing in KC. I think it’s due to @minkfitz_21 ‘roughing the passer call’ but seriously landing KC……….,” he posted on X.

As reported by NBC News, the Steelers were given Monday off by their head coach, Mike Tomlin. Next up, on Oct. 1, the team will play the Houston Texans in Houston.
