Steelers mock A.J. Green fight with their TD celebration

The Pittsburgh Steelers had a great idea for a touchdown celebration, they just executed it well below their normal standards.

But you have to respect the idea of poking fun at division rival A.J. Green of the Cincinnati Bengals for his fight with Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback Jalen Ramsey last week.

After Steelers receiver Juju Smith-Schuster scored and held his arms up, Le’Veon Bell went to him. The two have combined to have some fun celebrations already this season. Bell grabbed him around the neck in an attempt at a headlock, as Green did to Ramsey and led to both of them getting ejected, and kind of acted like he was wrestling him down. Smith-Schuster did what is known in pro wrestling as a “no sell,” as he didn’t really react. So the whole thing was kind of a dud. But their hearts were in the right place.

Smith-Schuster told reporters afterward they wanted to re-enact the fight and then make it positive in the end by shaking hands, but they didn’t rehearse it during the week and it showed. For shame.

“We messed up,” Smith-Schuster said afterward.

As the league leaders in fun touchdown celebrations, we’ll give the Steelers a pass. And since they were trying to make fun of Green and stoke the division rivalry a bit, they’ll get some extra points.
