Stede cannot keep his feelings for an absent Blackbeard bottled up, so he lobs into the sea a gushy love letter in the trailer for Season 2 of Max’s Our Flag Means Death.

In conjunction with the trailer’s release, Max also announced that the pirate comedy’s sophomore run will release Thursday, Oct. 5 (with the first three episodes), followed by two new episodes weekly leading up to the season finale on Oct. 26.

Hailing from showrunner/series creator David Jenkins, executive producer/star Taika Waititi and executive producer Garrett Basch, Season 1 of Our Flag Means Death was (very) loosely based on the true adventures of 18th century would-be pirate Stede Bonnet, played by Rhys Darby.

After trading in the seemingly charmed life of a gentleman for one of a swashbuckling buccaneer, Stede became captain of the pirate ship Revenge. Struggling to earn the respect of his potentially mutinous crew, Stede’s fortunes changed after a fateful run-in with the infamous Captain Blackbeard (played by Waititi). And to their surprise, the wildly different Stede and Blackbeard found more than friendship on the high seas… they found love.

Season 2 opens with Stede and Blackbeard “ruefully separated” after finally realizing said feelings, as shown in the trailer above.

In addition to Darby and Waititi, Season 2 brings back Samson Kayo, Vico Ortiz, Ewen Bremner, Joel Fry, Matthew Maher, Kristian Nairn, Con O’Neill, David Fane, Samba Schutte, Nat Faxon and Leslie Jones, while the new new additions include Minnie Driver (Speechless) as Anne Bonny, Ruibo Qian (Mozart in the Jungle) as a mysterious merchant named Susan, Bronson Pinchot (Perfect Strangers), Madeleine Sami (Deadloch), Anapela Polataivao (Filthy Rich) and Erroll Shand (One of Us Is Lying).
