Steakhouse to fish market, tacos to noodles: 34 new metro Phoenix restaurants are now open

Metro Phoenix welcomed over two dozen new restaurants and bars in the last month, serving all types of cuisine from Mexican to Mediterranean to Japanese. Unique new eateries include a European-style ice cream and dessert shop and a downtown Phoenix haven for lovers of both architecture and coffee.

The East Valley's dining scene continues to grow at a rapid pace — Gilbert alone welcomed three new restaurants, including a cookie shop, a taproom and another location of a popular sandwich chain. And residents in the West Valley said hello to restaurants like Someburros, Chicken N Pickle and Uncle Panda Dumpling & Noodle House.

Berry Divine

Berry Divine, a local chain serving acai bowls and smoothies, has opened inside Terminal 4 at Sky Harbor International Airport.

BJ's Brewhouse

The space previously occupied by Roy's Restaurant is now home to a new BJ's Brewhouse that relocated from Chandler Fashion Center. The restaurant is known for its deep-dish pizzas, burgers and "pizookies" or pizza cookies.

Black Rock Coffee

Black Rock Coffee opened a new location in Laveen on Aug. 11. It's the Oregon-based chain's 34th store in Arizona. The coffee chain offers premium roasted coffees, teas, smoothies and its own signature Fuel energy drinks.

Bobby's Burgers by Bobby Flay

Chef Bobby Flay's burger restaurant made its Arizona debut inside Terminal 4 at Sky Harbor International Airport on Aug. 31. Menu highlights include burgers like the fan-favorite Crunchburger with American cheese, potato chips and Bobby's sauce, plus a chicken sandwich, bacon and cheese fries and five types of milkshakes.

Breakfast Kitchen Bar

A second location of Breakfast Kitchen Bar is now open in north Scottsdale. The brunch restaurant first debuted at Desert Ridge Marketplace in 2020 and serves huevos rancheros, breakfast burritos, a shrimp scampi omelet, buttermilk pancakes and French toast. The cocktail menu includes a lavender lemon mimosa, a jalapeño margarita and an espresso martini.

Cava

Cava, a chain of fast-casual restaurants based in Washington, D.C., is now open at ASU. They offer six types of bowls and four pita sandwiches, or you can build your own. Highlights include the market spice bowl made with a spicy falafel, fiery broccoli, hummus, tzatziki, pickled onions, romaine, rice, skhug and garlic dressing; and the spicy lamb meatball pita made with Lamb meatballs, hummus, tomato, cucumber, pickled onions, cabbage slaw, pickles, garlic dressing and skhug.

Chicken N Pickle

Chicken N Pickle opened its first Arizona location at Westgate Entertainment District in Glendale. The complex includes 11 pickleball courts and a food menu anchored by rotisserie chicken, hence the name. Other menu highlights include wings, chicken and waffles and a hot chicken sandwich.

Chow's Ramen & Hibachi

A new Japanese restaurant is now open in south Tempe, serving Japanese favorites like chicken teriyaki, chow mein and katsu ramen.

The Coffee Builders

The Coffee Builders is downtown Phoenix's newest coffee shop. Opened by Thomas Porter of Porter Barn Wood and serving coffee creations from lead barista Johnny Rios, the coffee shop provides a welcoming combo of artistic architecture and top-quality drinks. Menu highlights include a birthday cake latte made with white chocolate, vanilla, espresso and milk, and a specialty drink called The Slopes made with blueberry, white chocolate, butterfly pea flower, espresso and milk.

Cold Beers & Cheeseburgers

A new location of Cold Beers & Cheeseburgers is now open in Buckeye. It is the restaurant chain's 15th Valley location.

Cookie Co.

Cookie Co. is the latest business to join the Verde at Cooley Station in Gilbert. The cookie shop is open seven days a week and offers unique cookie flavors such as a white chocolate chip cookie stuffed with Oreo pieces and topped with cream cheese frosting and a gluten-free peanut butter oatmeal "monster" cookie filled with chocolate chips and M&Ms.

Crispy Cones

Crispy Cones, an Idaho-based, European-inspired ice cream shop that you might have seen on "Shark Tank" opened its first Arizona location in Chandler. The dessert shop's specialty are trdelníks, Eastern European chimney cakes wrapped in the shape of a cone and cooked rotisserie-style before being sprinkled with cinnamon or sugar. Crispy Cones serves them either hot or cold filled with ice cream.

Dog Haus Biergarten

Dog Haus Biergarten has a menu of gourmet hot dogs and sausages. Highlights include the "old town" hot dog with smoked bacon, caramelized onions, chipotle aioli, pickled jalapeños and cotija cheese and the "chili the kid" with white American cheese, Haus chili, crispy onions and chipotle aioli.

Donabe

A new high-end Japanese steakhouse has opened inside the W Scottsdale hotel. The restaurant serves wagyu steaks, sushi, rolls and dishes like king salmon, duck and foie gras fried rice, king crab legs and a wagyu cheeseburger. Drink options include craft cocktails and wine by the glass or bottle.

Eegee's

The Tucson-based restaurant known for its frozen drinks has opened inside Terminal 4 at Sky Harbor International Airport.

Elliot's Steakhouse

Elliot's Steakhouse is the newest concept from the team behind Hidden House and The Brickyard. The restaurant is located inside a historic building that was originally the Rowena Theater in Chandler. Menu highlights include Japanese wagyu filet, foie gras, king crab legs, brown butter lobster and Osetra caviar. The dress code is business casual.

Hawaiian Bros

Hawaiian Bros has opened a space inside the Tempe Food Court. Currently, the restaurant functions similarly to a ghost kitchen, with meals available only by delivery via online ordering, but a full-service restaurant is scheduled to open in 2024.

Menu highlights include Huli Huli chicken, a grilled teriyaki chicken with rice and a side; Honolulu chicken infused with fresh garlic, green onions and sesame with rice and a side; and luau pig, a slow-roasted kalua pork seasoned with Hawaiian sea salt, rice and a side.

Hillside Water & Ice Cream

Hillside isn't your typical water and ice store. Owners Herman and Wanlin Lam sell ice cream, Japanese wafer sandwiches, Mexican candy, boba milk bars, instant noodles and other international snacks and desserts in their Ahwatukee shop. The drinks lineup includes flavored lemonades, shakes, malts, root beer floats and teas, and they hope to begin serving coffee soon.

Holiday Toast & Tap

A new family-owned restaurant and bar is now open in Gilbert. Holiday Toast & Tap serves wood-fired pizzas, local draft beers, wine and cocktails. The menu is limited during the soft opening phase, but more options will be added soon.

Ike's Love & Sandwiches

The 11th Valley location of Ike's Love & Sandwiches is now open in Gilbert. Ike's offers over 800 sandwich options, such as the "Adam Richman" made with fried chicken, ham, pesto, honey, avocado and Swiss and the "Elvis Keith" made with halal chicken, teriyaki, wasabi mayo and Swiss.

Lina's Macarons

Lina's Macarons, a local macaron business run by owner Lina Jap George, has landed a permanent spot inside Cha Tea in Mesa after gaining a following at the Gilbert Farmer's Market and other events. George's homemade macarons resemble cute characters from Sanrio, Pokémon, Disney, BT21 and more.

Canada-based restaurant Moxies made its Arizona debut in August at Scottsdale Fashion Square. The restaurant occupies 12,000 square feet and can seat 350 guests in its indoor-outdoor dining room anchored by a large island bar in the center. The upscale menu includes short rib Bolognese, chicken madeira rigatoni, chipotle mango chicken, baby back ribs and prime ribeye steak.

Nelson's Meat + Fish

The long-awaited second location of Nelson's Meat + Fish has soft-opened in north Scottsdale. The shop offers fish taco kits, lobster rolls, oysters, crab salad and poke bowls as daily specials. Menu items vary day-to-day, so be sure to check online or call ahead if you're craving something specific.

Pedal Haus Brewing has opened its first airport location inside Sky Harbor International Airport, serving its award-winning beers and American comfort food to travelers at Terminal 4.

Philly's Sports Grill

A new location of Philly's Sports Grill is now open in south Tempe. Menu highlights include a chili mac and cheese skillet, 10-ounce top sirloin, ginger shoyu salmon, a buffalo chicken ranch wrap and half a dozen different cheesesteaks. Happy hour is from 3-7 p.m. daily.

Point 22 Tavern

Point 22 Tavern is a new locally-owned restaurant serving wings, burgers, sandwiches and entrees like country fried chicken, ribeye steak, shrimp dinner and fish and chips. The drinks list includes strawberry, Moscow and Irish orange mules, wine and specialty cocktails such as a cucumber gimlet and a nada colada made with Buchanan's pineapple, coconut cream, agave, lime juice and bitters.

Someburros

Someburros, a family-owned and operated Mexican restaurant that first opened in Phoenix in the 1980s, has finally expanded west with its first Peoria location. Someburros uses family recipes for all of their tacos, tostadas, enchiladas, taquitos and quesadillas. Fan favorites include pollo fundido burros, red and green chili beef and frozen margaritas.

Spitz Mediterranean Street Food

After making its Arizona debut at Desert Ridge Marketplace earlier this year, Spitz Mediterranean Street Food has opened its second Valley location, this time in Tempe. Spitz offers doner wraps, bowls, loaded fries and "doquitos" or Mediterranean taquitos.

Swig

Utah-based chain Swig is now open in Chandler. Swig offers dirty sodas, which are regular sodas like Dr. Pepper or Sprite, mixed with extra syrups and toppings. Menu options include the Shark Attack made with Sprite, lemonade, blue raspberry flavor and topped with a gummy shark or the Just Peachy made with Coke Zero, pineapple flavor, peach puree, fresh lime and coconut cream.

A new family-run Chinese restaurant is now open in Glendale. Uncle Panda specializes in house-made dumplings, and also serves steamed buns, wontons, noodles and entrees like spicy braised chicken, Taiwanese three-cup chicken and pork spare ribs.

Zingara Market

Zingara, a new coffee bar and gourmet market, is now open in Scottsdale. 420 Taco
