On Sunday (Jan. 14), Statik Selektah revealed that he is currently recovering from an unexpected health scare. “Came in Friday to have a one-hour surgery (removal of an abscess). Two days later, life gets complicated,” the New England talent wrote on Instagram. “Lung complications that I still don’t understand, but I’m good now, breathing on my own, and will be back on the streets in a [second].”

Statik continued, “Thanks for the love from everyone. Can’t reply to each of you, so if you’re seeing this, thank you. Happy to be here… Love yours. Not gon’ lie, I [saw] that lighthouse a few times in the last 24 hours while I was under and a whole bunch of other s**t I’ll never forget.” He also thanked his mother for holding him down “since day one.”

In response, scores of Statik’s Hip Hop peers expressed support in the comments, including Killer Mike, Raekwon, El-P, Papoose, Tony Yayo, Pete Rock and Hit-Boy. 2 Chainz, who recently confirmed the pending release of a collaborative project with the DJ-producer on the “Rap Radar Podcast,” contributed to the warm outpouring of love. “Man, you better get yo a** up bro, we got s**t to do,” the Atlanta star said. “I hope [you’re] feeling better, killa.”

Back in December 2023, Statik reunited with Bun B for the third installment of their critically acclaimed Trillstatik series, which consisted of 15 tracks and additional contributions from Benny The Butcher, Method Man, Boldy James, Millyz, Talib Kweli, Smoke DZA and more. That year also spawned the beat tape Mahalo 2 (More Hawaii Instrumentals), the star-studded Round Trip compilation and full-length drops with Nym Lo and Kota The Friend. Outside of official releases, Statik continued to push the culture forward via his “Showoff Radio” show on SiriusXM’s Shade 45 channel.
