Outlander's sixth season only recently resumed filming, but fans of the popular time-travel series are already thinking ahead—way ahead—to a potential season seven.
Here's what we know so far:
At this point, nothing has been publicly confirmed.
Back in May of 2018, Starz announced that Outlander had been picked up for seasons five and six.
"Fans can rest assured their beloved Claire and Jamie will be back facing new challenges, adversaries and adventures in seasons five and six as we delve into American history and continue the story of the Frasers as they settle in the New World," Starz president and CEO Chris Albrecht said in a statement at the time.
But there hasn't been a similar announcement thus far about season seven.
But there's no need to worry yet.
At the Television Critics’ Association press tour in January 2019, executive producer Maril Davis spoke about future plans for the series.
"We'll keep making this until Claire and Jamie are a hundred," Davis said. "Honestly, we will. There's still many more books to go. And if Starz and Sony are willing, we're willing, and if the actors are willing, we'll keep going."
Starz CEO Jeffrey Hirsch also hinted at the possibility of a spinoff.
“We think there’s a lot of opportunity in the ‘Outlander’ universe to have story extensions or spinoffs or sequels. We continue to look at that with our partners at Sony,” he said.
In the past, fans have asked for a spinoff series that specifically follows Lord John Grey, and uses Diana Gabaldon's novellas about the character.
But when specifically asked about a potential Lord John TV show, Hirsch was purposefully vague.
"We continue to talk on a regular basis about developing the story line around Outlander. It’s something that we are aware of," he told EW. "We want to continue to serve that audience with what we think are the best stories."
Outlander creator Ronald Moore is "very optimistic" about a seventh season.
During an interview about his new deal with Disney, Moore shared that "conversations are underway on both season seven and on a spinoff.
"I think we're going to have good news on both those fronts before too long so I feel very optimistic about it. I agree that I would've been happy to see it happen sooner than this but everything happens in its time. I think both those things are probably going to happen and hopefully we'll be able to say something about it before too long."
We'll continue to update this post as soon as we know more.
