Just one day after the Writers Guild of America (WGA) struck a deal with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) and promised to end their 146-day strike, STARZ announced the cancellation of four of its series.

After their respective second seasons aired earlier this year, Run The World, Blindspotting, and Heels were not renewed for future seasons. Additionally, the first season of The Venery of Samantha Bird has been shelved indefinitely. According to Variety, the series had two episodes left of its debut season to film.

Run The World starred Amber Stevens West, Bresha Webb, and Corbin Reid — a group of Black female friends navigating their careers and relationships in the world of Harlem. Supporting cast members included Stephen Bishop, Tosin Morohunfola, Erika Alexander, Nick Sagar, Jay Walker, and Tonya Pinkins. The show was created by Leigh Davenport and co-executive produced by Yvette Lee Bowser.

Blindspotting starred Jasmine Cephas Jones as Ashley. Her character had dreams of a middle class life with her partner of 12 years and son’s father, Miles (Rafael Casal), until he found himself unexpectedly incarcerated. This caused Ashley’s world to implode, causing her to move in with Miles’ mother and half-sister. The dramedy was the aftermath to the 2018 film of the same name starring Jones, Casal, and Daveed Diggs.

STARZ is currently airing Power Book IV: Force. Season three of Power Book III: Raising Kanan will air this December and season four of Power Book II: Ghost is expected to resume once the SAG-AFTRA strike ends.

When confirming a deal had been reached after five consecutive days of negotiating, WGA wrote in an email, “We can say, with great pride, that this deal is exceptional — with meaningful gains and protections for writers in every sector of the membership.” They also added, “To be clear, no one is to return to work until specifically authorized to by the Guild. We are still on strike until then.”
